File-Based Web Services and Software

Since I built my own file-based blogging system Blogracer, more and more file-based systems and servies pop up. While I don't think the file-based approach will have a big impact on the web, I really appreciate this development. Seems as if my concept must have some substance.

If you know any other service or software, please drop a comment.

Vivi, the CMS of Zeit Online. Sadly the Page, explaining the Architecture is missing newer days.

True, so true. Vivi is much more powerful, as far as I know. And although it is file based, the user interfaces are mostly web based and advanced. That counts for both, front- and backend (editorial UIs).

I did one too: http://www.lukastreyer.com/FileBlog/ I didn't know of kirby, mine is similar, but not the same.

@Lukas: Cool! Thanks for sharing the link. I'll have a look into it.

pancake.io

  • blog service
  • dropbox upload
  • markdown text syntax
  • proprietary

The easiest way to publish on the web: a simple text file in your Dropbox folder

Anyone can learn to make a pancake. And now anyone can make a web site. We're the easiest way to create and maintain a web page.

All you need to do is create a text file, and save it into the special Pancake folder in your Dropbox account. We'll turn that file into a web page for you.

The best part? Updating your page is as easy as opening the text file up in Notepad, TextEdit or your favorite text editor, making the changes you want, and saving the file. Your website gets updated automatically.

How could you miss jekyll? :-)

http://jekyllrb.com/

It's file based, a generator, blog oriented, but definitely not restricted to that. I use it to build blogs, documentation sites – for customer and internal use.

It can be very, very simple, but is powerful as a generator can be.

Oh, you're totally right, Markus. Actually I had a look at Jekyll about a year ago. For me personally it's too advanced concerning command line etc. But I guess for a developer it's a handy tool.
